Due to the restrictions because of COVID-19, there is a slight chance I might have been indoors for too long. That could explain why I’m analyzing SpongeBob SquarePants. I already did so on Instagram. Now it’s time for a blog about this cartoon series (and movies).
Did they expect the series would become that popular when they created SpongeBob SquarePants back in 1999? About 270 episodes have been aired. Also, a few movies have been released.
Don’t we all know the story of this SpongeBob? He lives in a pineapple deep in the sea. To be precise in Bikini Bottom. Always sharply dressed in brown trousers, a white shirt, a red tie, not to mention white socks with blue stripes, over which he has put on black patent shoes. So stylish.

One can enjoy this creature and all its adventures and the other (one) cannot stand this creature and all the entourage. For me, it raises questions. Many questions. About how and why. It’s not even about a talking sponge. Or his friend (Patrick Star), who is a talking starfish. Patrick isn’t gifted with the power of knowledge. But on the other side, so isn’t SpongeBob. Okay, I will try to look beyond this.
This afternoon, my daughter watched one of the episodes. The main characters were on the run from a pack of fierce sea worms (or sea snakes), who acted a lot like a pack of wolves. In the sleigh, pulled by house snail (or sea snail) – Gary the Snail – there were other friends of him: Eugene Krabs and Sandy Cheeks. Eugene is a red crab. Sandy is a squirrel – who lives in the ocean (made possible because of a diving suit and a glass dome).
Gary the Snail is everything but a snail. He seems to act more like a domestic cat. He even makes the sounds a cat makes. He doesn’t like taking baths, which is unusual because taking baths underwater is – to my knowledge – simply impossible. So is snow on the bottom of the ocean. Yet, in this episode, it snowed. The characters were really cold. So what’s the best thing to do? Yes, light a fire. Again, to my knowledge: not possible on the bottom of the ocean.
Here we are. Almost 400 words about SpongeBob SquarePants. After this all, one can only conclude that it’s a strange world in the ocean!
Did I already mention that Mr Krabs is the owner of the Krusty Krab? This former home for senior citizens is turned into a restaurant. On the menu are the famous Krab Burgers. One might assume, based on the name of this burger, that Mr Krabs doesn’t have any problem with cannibalism. This isn’t the only strange thing about this red crab. Take his daughter, Pearl. She is a sperm whale. Relationships between sperm whales and crabs are just a normal thing. Just like relationships between security cameras, who become supercomputers, and plankton (Karen and Sheldon Plankton).
This leaves us Octo. Everyone knows an octopus has eight tentacles (octo). He doesn’t. He has two arms and four legs. Counting is somewhat difficult.
Yes, about another 100 words more about this cartoon series. About SpongeBob SquarePants. Why isn’t his name Sponge Bob Square Pants? That’s just one of the many questions about this cartoon. Too many to write about, I think. I shouldn’t do this. I’ve been inside for too long, I guess. The next analysis or review should be about something more serious…
Any suggestions?
